What it is
Testosterone is the body’s main androgen hormone. Clinicians prescribe testosterone therapy for patients with a confirmed deficiency, based on symptoms and lab results, and monitor treatment with follow-up testing. FDA-approved testosterone products are available. A prescriber may order a compounded preparation when a patient needs a strength, dosage form or ingredient profile that is not commercially available.
Testosterone is a Schedule III controlled substance. We dispense it only on a prescription from a DEA-registered prescriber, and only where the law permits.
Dosage forms we compound
- Sterile injection, prepared under USP <797> in ISO-classified cleanrooms.
- Topical gel or cream, with metered dosing for consistent application.
- Troches that dissolve in the mouth.
- Needles, syringes and alcohol swabs for injectable forms, where state law permits.
How to get it
- Patients: ask your prescriber to send the prescription to AccuMix Pharmacy by e-prescription or fax.
- Providers and clinics: see our Providers page, or call 866-817-5303 for a pharmacist consult. Testosterone prescriptions must come from a DEA-registered prescriber.
We dispense only on a valid prescription for a named patient; nothing is sold through this website. Our turnaround time is 24 hours. We ship to the 39 states and Washington, DC where we hold a license, and controlled substances only where the law permits.
How it is made
Sterile forms are compounded under USP <797> in ISO Class 5 hoods inside ISO Class 7 cleanrooms, and every sterile batch is tested for sterility and endotoxins. Non-sterile forms are compounded under USP <795>, with USP <800> controls for hormones. Ingredients come from FDA-registered suppliers and are verified against a certificate of analysis. A pharmacist checks each step, and every preparation is traceable by lot.
Safety and what to expect
- Use exactly as prescribed, and keep the lab appointments your prescriber schedules.
- Topical hormones can transfer to other people by skin contact. Wash your hands after applying, let the site dry and keep it covered with clothing. Children and pets should not touch the application site.
- Tell your prescriber about prostate or breast cancer, heart disease, sleep apnea, a history of blood clots, or plans to have children.
- Possible effects include acne, oily skin, fluid retention and mood changes. Report these to your prescriber.
- Store it securely. Sharing or selling a controlled substance is against the law.
Storage
Follow the storage directions and the beyond-use date (BUD) printed on your label, including refrigeration if indicated. Keep all medications out of the reach of children and pets.
Common questions
Which dosage form is right for me?
Your prescriber chooses the form and strength from your symptoms, history and lab results. We compound exactly what is prescribed, and our pharmacists can discuss dosage-form options with your prescriber.
Can you ship testosterone to my state?
We ship to the states where we hold a license and where the law allows a pharmacy to deliver controlled substances. Call us to confirm for your state.
Do you compound low-dose testosterone for women?
Yes, when a prescriber orders it. See Androgens.
Compounded medications are not reviewed or approved by the FDA. AccuMix Pharmacy is a 503A compounding pharmacy and compounds only after receiving a valid prescription for an individual patient. This page is general information, not medical advice. Your prescriber decides whether this therapy is right for you.
