What it is

Estrogens are the hormones whose levels fall at menopause. Estradiol (E2) is the main estrogen of the reproductive years, and estriol (E3) is a weaker estrogen. The estrogens we compound are bioidentical, meaning they have the same chemical structure as the hormones the body makes.

Many FDA-approved estradiol products are available as tablets, patches, gels and vaginal forms, and they are usually the first choice. A prescriber may order a compounded preparation when a patient needs a strength, combination or dosage form that is not commercially available.

Dosage forms we compound

  • Topical creams or gels with metered dosing.
  • Troches.
  • Vaginal dosage forms for local symptoms, where appropriate.
  • Day-by-day labels for rhythmic (rHRT) protocols.

How to get it

  • Patients: ask your prescriber to send the prescription to AccuMix Pharmacy by e-prescription or fax.
  • Providers and clinics: see our Providers page for what to include on the prescription, or call 866-817-5303 for a pharmacist consult.

We dispense only on a valid prescription for a named patient; nothing is sold through this website. Our turnaround time is 24 hours, and we ship to the 39 states and Washington, DC where we hold a license.

How it is made

Compounded under USP <795>, with USP <800> controls for hazardous ingredients, by a team led by board-certified pharmacists. Ingredients come from FDA-registered suppliers and are verified against a certificate of analysis. A pharmacist checks each step, and every preparation is traceable by lot.

Safety and what to expect

  • Estrogen therapy has benefits and risks that depend on your age, health history, dose and route. Review them with your prescriber.
  • If you have a uterus, your prescriber will usually add a progestogen to protect the lining of the uterus.
  • Tell your prescriber about any history of blood clots, stroke, heart disease, liver disease, breast cancer or unexplained vaginal bleeding.
  • Topical hormones can transfer to other people by skin contact. Wash your hands after applying, let the site dry and keep it covered with clothing. Children and pets should not touch the application site.

Storage

Follow the storage directions and the beyond-use date (BUD) printed on your label, including refrigeration if indicated. Keep all medications out of the reach of children and pets.

Common questions

What is physiologic rhythmic HRT (rHRT)?

A cyclic approach that varies estradiol and progesterone from day to day to follow a natural monthly pattern, usually with transdermal creams. We compound to your prescriber’s calendar.

Which dosage form is right for me?

Your prescriber chooses the form and strength from your symptoms, history and lab results. We compound exactly what is prescribed, and our pharmacists can discuss dosage-form options with your prescriber.

Do you compound progesterone as well?

Yes. See Progesterone.

Compounded medications are not reviewed or approved by the FDA. AccuMix Pharmacy is a 503A compounding pharmacy and compounds only after receiving a valid prescription for an individual patient. This page is general information, not medical advice. Your prescriber decides whether this therapy is right for you.
