What it is
Sublingual immunotherapy delivers allergen extract as drops held under the tongue. After a first dose and instruction from the clinician, it is taken daily at home. The strength (dilution) follows the prescriber’s protocol.
AccuMix compounds the drops from the same standardized allergen extracts used for allergy shots. FDA has approved sublingual tablets for a few allergens (certain grass pollens, short ragweed and dust mites). Custom-mixed drops are a compounded preparation and are not FDA-approved.
What you receive
- Custom-dosed oral drops for one named patient, labeled by strength.
- Airborne allergens and, when the prescriber directs, certain food allergens.
- A label with daily directions, storage conditions and a beyond-use date.

How to get it
- Patients: ask your prescriber to send the prescription to AccuMix Pharmacy by e-prescription or fax. No prescriber yet? Contact us and we can coordinate with a licensed telehealth provider in your state.

How it is made
Prepared with aseptic technique under the Allergenic Extracts section of USP <797>, from FDA-licensed allergen extracts. A pharmacist verifies each patient’s preparation against the prescription, and every preparation is labeled and traceable by lot.
Safety and what to expect
- Take the first dose as your clinician directs, and follow your schedule exactly.
- Itching or mild swelling in the mouth or throat is common in the first weeks. Report symptoms that persist or get worse.
- Trouble breathing, throat tightness or widespread hives is an emergency. Call 911.
- Tell your clinician about asthma flares, mouth sores or dental surgery, and pregnancy.
Storage
Follow the storage directions and the beyond-use date (BUD) printed on your label, including refrigeration if indicated. Keep all medications out of the reach of children and pets.
Common questions
Can SLIT be started through telehealth?
In many states, yes. A licensed telehealth clinician can evaluate you and prescribe SLIT when it is appropriate.
What is the difference between SLIT and SCIT?
SLIT is taken at home as drops under the tongue. SCIT is given by injection in the clinic. Our article SCIT vs SLIT compares them in detail.
How long does treatment take?
Programs usually have a build-up phase followed by maintenance. The timing depends on the clinician’s protocol and your response.
Compounded medications are not reviewed or approved by the FDA. AccuMix Pharmacy is a 503A compounding pharmacy and compounds only after receiving a valid prescription for an individual patient. This page is general information, not medical advice. Your prescriber decides whether this therapy is right for you.
