What it is

Tesamorelin is a synthetic analog of growth hormone–releasing hormone (GHRH), the signal the brain uses to tell the pituitary gland to release growth hormone.

It is the active ingredient in Egrifta®, an FDA-approved medicine for reducing excess abdominal fat in adults with HIV who have lipodystrophy. Compounded tesamorelin is not a generic of that product and is not FDA-approved. Your prescriber decides whether it is appropriate for you and how treatment is monitored.

What you receive

  • Sterile injection in the strength your prescriber orders.
  • Needles, syringes and alcohol swabs where state law permits.
  • A label with directions, storage conditions and a beyond-use date.

How to get it

  • Patients: ask your prescriber to send the prescription to AccuMix Pharmacy by e-prescription or fax. No prescriber yet? Contact us and we can coordinate with a licensed telehealth provider in your state.
  • Providers and clinics: see our Providers page for what to include on the prescription, or call 866-817-5303 for a pharmacist consult.

We dispense only on a valid prescription for a named patient; nothing is sold through this website. Our turnaround time is 24 hours, and we ship to the 37 states and Washington, DC where we hold a license.

How it is made

Compounded under USP <797> in ISO Class 5 hoods inside ISO Class 7 cleanrooms, by a team led by board-certified pharmacists. Ingredients come from FDA-registered suppliers and are verified against a certificate of analysis. Every sterile batch is tested for sterility and endotoxins. Potency is tested regularly and whenever the source of an active ingredient changes. A pharmacist checks each step, and every preparation is traceable by lot.

Safety and what to expect

  • Use exactly as prescribed, and rotate injection sites as instructed.
  • Possible effects include redness or itching at the injection site, joint or muscle aches, and swelling in the hands or feet.
  • Tell your prescriber if you have or have had cancer, have diabetes or a pituitary condition, or are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • Tell your prescriber about every medication you take and about pregnancy, breastfeeding, cancer history, and liver, kidney or autoimmune conditions.

Storage

Follow the storage directions and the beyond-use date (BUD) printed on your label. Many sterile peptide preparations need refrigeration and protection from light. If a refrigerated shipment arrives warm, call us before using it. Keep all medications out of the reach of children and pets.

Common questions

How is tesamorelin different from sermorelin?

Both are analogs of GHRH, but they are different molecules. Your prescriber decides which, if either, is appropriate. See Sermorelin.

Will I be shown how to inject?

Your prescriber or our pharmacists will explain the injection technique, and the directions are printed on your label. Call us with any question before your first dose.

Compounded medications are not reviewed or approved by the FDA. AccuMix Pharmacy is a 503A compounding pharmacy and compounds only after receiving a valid prescription for an individual patient. This page is general information, not medical advice. Your prescriber decides whether this therapy is right for you.
